Carolina Tohá, former Minister of the Interior, has emerged as one of the leading figures within the official party to potentially enter the presidential race, as shown in the latest version of the Panel Ciudadano UDD survey.
The survey, conducted between March 5 and 6, included 1,084 people nationwide and revealed that Tohá already has the support of 12% of those surveyed.
These results come after Michelle Bachelet’s decision not to run for president for the third time in 2025, making the former Secretary of State a key figure to receive the support that the former president generates.
Carolina Tohá’s rise in popularity within the official party is evident as she surpasses other potential candidates such as Tomás Vodanovic and Camila Vallejo, who only garnered 8% and 4% support, respectively.
However, despite her strong performance within the official party, Tohá has not managed to surpass any right-wing figures, as the survey shows Evelyn Matthei leading with 25% of the preferences, followed by José Antonio Kast with 13% and Johannes Kaiser with 16%.
The survey also highlighted a significant number of undecided and null votes, indicating that the presidential race remains open and unpredictable.
Carolina Tohá’s background as a former Minister of the Interior and her association with Michelle Bachelet’s government have positioned her as a viable candidate to lead the official party in the upcoming election. Her experience and political acumen make her a strong contender to navigate the complexities of the current political landscape.
As the political scenario continues to evolve, Tohá will face various challenges, including consolidating her support base, articulating a clear and compelling vision for the country, and addressing key issues that resonate with voters.
The upcoming months will be crucial for Tohá as she seeks to build momentum and broaden her appeal across different sectors of society. Her ability to connect with voters, communicate effectively, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities will be essential in positioning herself as a frontrunner in the race for the presidency.
In conclusion, Carolina Tohá’s emergence as a key player in the official party signals a shifting political landscape in the lead-up to the 2025 presidential election. With her experience, charisma, and strategic approach, Tohá has the potential to reshape the political dynamics and emerge as a formidable candidate to lead the country. Only time will tell how her political journey unfolds and whether she can translate her current support into a successful presidential bid.
